Mio Energy Black Cherry Liquid Water Enhancer comes in a small tear-shaped black bottle with red/white/grey accent (traditional power colors). The bottle is about 3" tall 2" wide and a 3/4" thick. The front of the bottle as an "M", which I assume is for "Mio", with "MioEnergy" (it appears all together on the name, but we think it's two words, differentiated by the text color "Mio" in grey, "energy" in white) underneath. Under that, "Liquid Water Enhancer". Along the bottom, "Makes 18 8fl. oz. servings", "Black Cherry Natural Flavor with Other Natural Flavors", and in tiny text, "1.62 fl. oz. (48ml)". On the side "Does not need refrigeration. For best quality, use within 1 month of opening". Then a warning, "Caution: not for children. Do not add to caffeinated or alcoholic drinks. Contains 60mg caffeine/serving for energy. 18 servings/bottle." On the other side, "Make Mio Flip it unlock the flavor Tip it each squeeze into water adds more flavor Sip it you drink your way Click it twice to lock tight One squeeze for 8fl. oz. serving always dilute concentrate".
Today, I'm reviewing a product that I've become very excited about over the past week. I picked up Mio Energy Black Cherry, a Kraft Foods product, from Rite-Aid for $4 in the carbonated beverages section. The label reports that this bottle makes 18 8oz. servings. Squeeze the bottle once into 8oz. of water, twice for 16oz. etc. Each serving contains 60mg of caffeine, 10% of B3, B6 and B12, with 0 calories. So, what's so great about Mio?
Firstly, a single 5-hour energy shot costs $3 or more, taste like regurgitated skittles, and has a moderately energizing formula. Meanwhile, Mio contains 18 servings for $4. Diluting this in water gives you all sorts of flavor options, so you're not stuck with one pre-measured offensive flavor, like with 5-hour energy shots. If you don't like the flavor much, you can put one squeeze into 16oz., but if you like the flavor, you can put more than one squeeze in 8oz. of water. As far as energy, this has about 3/4 of the caffeine found in a Red Bull, with a small B vitamin booster. Sure, it doesn't have like 10,000% of your daily B12, like 5-hour energy shots, but who wants to pay a fortune for 83 times the amount their body needs?
I've been drinking from a single bottle for over a week. I think the Black Cherry flavor tastes great, and with a two squeezes into about 12fl. oz. of water, I get plenty of flavor and plenty of energy for around 50 cents a day, which makes 5-hour energy shots and many other energy drinks look like they've been taking indecent liberties with your wallet. To top it all off, it's more convenient to carry than most other energy shots and drinks, particularly if you'll need more than one serving on your journey.
Personally, I enjoy the television ad for Mio. Now that I've tried the product, I'm pretty impressed with it too. It's like carrying around 18 Crystal Light On the Go packets with you. Interestingly, Crystal Light, which I would consider the closest competition to Mio, is also a Kraft Foods product. In any case, I was concerned at first about carrying this flip top bottle with nearly ink-color-potent liquid in my pocket. I was firstly relieved to see that the squeeze bottle takes a little tension before releasing it's contents, then it comes out clean in a thin stream, with no drips. Afterward, it's flips closed tight, and I've had no problems with it.
One important note, the black cherry, if I use too much, shows up on my dental work. Otherwise, I have absolutely nothing negative to say about Mio Energy Black Cherry. Everything else is positive.
I enjoy the taste. I use more than recommended in 8fl. oz. of water, but even with 2 squeezes, it doesn't taste syrupy. For the price, I certainly get a sufficient amount of energy. Since I get 18 servings, I don't have to stop at a convenience store all the time to pick one up, it's with me a when I need it, and finding a cup of water to dilute it has also not proven difficult. It's all around quality, with a decent taste, respectable energy supplement, low price, and condensed/compact packaging.
