Rockstar Recovery Energy Plus Hydration Grape comes in a purple and black can with blue and white text. It's adorned with a great deal of stars. The test around the rim reads, "Caffeine, B-Vitamins, Taurine, Ginseng, Milk Thistle". Then, the text on the front reads, "Rockstar Recovery Energy Plus Hydration", then there's the big Rockstar star logo on the left. To the right of the Rockstar star logo, "Only 10 Calories Per Serving, Plus Electrolytes, Plus High Caffeine". At the bottom, "non-carbonated, GRAPE". On each side, vertically oriented, "Rockstar Energy Plus Recovery". "16fl/oz[473ml]".
Then there's some mess on the back, it reads, "Rockstar Recovery is designed for those who need a strong energy boost when it counts - plus maximum recovery and hydration, B-vitamins, caffeine, electrolytes, and Rockstar's potent herbal blend are formulated to deliver that extra kick. With its fully refreshing grape flavor, Recovery is smooth, powerful and easy to drink."
It seems everyone simultaneously got the same market research that people like product names that start with "re". Names like Rehab, Refreshers, Recovery, and Renal Failure are all intended to warm the hearts of would-be consumers. Monster's Rehab products range from mediocre to great, from Protean to Lemonade Tea respectively, and Starbuck's Refreshers taste like pesticide.
Rockstar's Recovery has been around for a while, but until recently, we'd only been able to get the lemonade flavor. Recovery is a series of non-carbonated hydration beverages, and we've recently acquired the grape and orange flavors.
The grape flavor tastes very much like grape Kool-Aid. It is hard to get past paying $1.50-$2 for 16oz. Of what tastes like grape Kool-Aid, but let me share some of the selling points of this energy drink. Firstly, it has only 10 calories, and still tastes sugar-sweetened. It's also got the a reasonable allotment of the usual energy drink stuffs (caffeine, taurine and b-vitaimins), along with some other not-so-standard stuff (prickly pear extract, milk thistle extract). If nothing else, the can looks like something Flavor Flav would wear. I think Recovery tastes great, but if you're drinking it for taste, seriously, just buy grape Kool-Aid.
I feel as energized from Rockstar Recovery as from most Rockstar beverages. I miss the sugar high I get from regular Rockstar, but the regular is so thick I want to wash it down with brownie batter.
Almost everywhere I go lately, Rockstar is 2/$3. I consider Rockstar one of the major players in the energy drink industry, along with Red Bull and Monster. Coca-Cola and Pepsi have to save face with Full Throttle and Amp, so these two brands are seen as "too big to fail", but they're an afterthought, in my opinion, and only have shelf space in C-stores because of their parent companies. With that in mind, I don't think Recovery plays a major role in Rockstar's market share, but when they're on sale, I'll pick one up from time-to-time. Most frequently, I will get a regular 16oz. Rockstar, Monster or Monster Rehab Tea if all prices are the same. About once a year, I buy a Red Bull because they are on sale, or it's all they have at the country club, but otherwise, I never buy them. Personally, I have no idea how they're still in business.
In conclusion, Recovery Grape is a great-tasting, thirst-quenching drink that's better than most competitors' products, it adds some variety to the market, and is often available at a discount price, but I'm still rarely inclined to buy it.
I don't thoroughly inspect my drinks for tiny print before consuming them, so I was unaware this was non-carbonated. I really enjoyed Crunk Grape, and NOS Grape, and I was looking forward to a delicious grape soda beverage. I can't say I was disappointed, this drink was very refreshing and easy to drink. For people who aren't label readers, if you're expecting a soda, this is more like a caffeinated sports drink (more like Powerade than Gatorade).
As Jason has stated, we got these 2/$3, which I think is in incredible deal. I feel like the Recovery series is every bit as energizing as other Rockstars, but I personally don't find any of the Rockstar sodas extremely thirst quenching (though I love the taste of almost all of them). If you are really thirsty, this drink hits the spot. Recovery Grape is probably my favorite Rockstar next to Rockstar Punched, which I've not seen in stores in my area in some time.
Rockstar has a fairly large product line, and the main problem in my area is finding all the products. For instance, Food Lion carries two of the Recovery flavors (Orange and Grape), the regular, sugar free and zero carb. I've only seen the Rockstar Iced (tea) in one tiny gas station, I've not seen the Juiced or Cola in a year or so, I've never seen the Xdurance product. Additionally, the Roasted and 2X products aren't well represented. I just saw the new Relax drink for the first time about 2 weeks ago. So, Rockstar's product line is really more varied than Monster's, but I don't think the general public is aware of most of the Rockstar products.
In short, all the products I've had from Rockstar are excellent. I encourage you to try them. Hopefully, with time, distribution and retail shelf space allocated to other Rockstar beverages will increase.
