Rockstar Recovery Energy Plus Hydration diet lemonade energy drink comes in a easily identifiable lemon yellow can. It has the typical Rockstar Energy markings, most obviously, the big backwards R and R star logo in the bottom left of the facade. The can features "Rockstar" down the side in outline black letters, on the front is yellow with white and black outline. Under "Rockstar" on the front is "Recovery" in red, outlined in black and white. Under that, "Energy (Plus Sign) Hyrdation". The other text on the front reads, "Only 10 Calories Per Serving Plus Electrolytes Plus High Caffeine". On the back there's some vertically oriented, surprisingly easy-to-read flavor text. "Rockstar Recovery is designed for those who need a strong energy boost when it counts - plus maximum recovery and hydration. B-vitamins, caffeine, electrolytes, and Rockstar's potent herbal blend are formulated to deliver that extra kick. Fully refreshing lemonade flavor made with real lemon juice, Recovery is smooth, powerful and easy to drink." Lastly, "Shake Gently".
Rockstar is apparently familiar with the old saying, if life gives you lemons, be thankful it didn't give you poison ivy on the unmentionables. Rockstar's Recovery Energy Plus Hydration is a thirst-quenching uncarbonated lemonade energy drink that contains only 1g of sugar and 10 calories per serving. Rockstar Recovery tastes very much like a diet lemonade mix, I love lemonade, but I'd prefer they just use sugar. With all these low carb energy drinks, I'm find it difficult to level up from obese to morbidly obese. Sucralose is probably my favorite artificial sweetener, it has a minimal aftertaste and does serve to make this hydration drink less syrupy than a traditional lemonade. Recovery costs about $2 per can. Expensive for an inferior-tasting lemonade. The kid down the street has a stand with all-you-can-drink Country Time lemonade for $1...he has great beer specials too.
Rockstar Recovery appears to have bested Hydrive's energy offering in almost every respect. It has 15mg more caffeine per container, along with prickly pear, milk thistle and some other debatably active ingredients. Hydrive's Lemon-Lime was delicious, consequently, I believe it's the only flavor I prefer to Recovery. The convenience of Hydrive's resealable bottle over this 16oz. can is noteworthy.
If you like how Rockstar works, which I do, and you like how diet lemonade tastes, this is an affective and refreshing alternative to thick carbonated energy drinks on a hot day filled with physical activities. It's great for putting in the cooler and taking to the beach, lake, or rattlesnake roundup.
Rockstar's product line is impressive, for the most part, we've only been disappointed with the original Rockstar Juiced Mango Orange, which has sense been reformulated twice, and the new Rockstar 2X Energy offering. Their packaging is easily-identifiable, and I believe it has a respectable shelf-appeal. Besides being a recognizable brand, who makes mostly quality product, their line of products commands a good deal of C-store refrigerator space. While they may not have the commercial success of Monster or Red Bull, I think the overall quality and variety of their product offerings are superior to either of the aforementioned. Additionally, I think there is a strong brand loyalty from people who have discovered the caffeine powerhouse Rockstar Zero Carb, the delectable flavor of Rockstar Punched, or the original Diet Rockstar, which I think is a reasonable, more cost-effective replacement for Red Bull Sugar Free.
I find Rockstar Recovery to be delicious and very refreshing. It's very easy to knock back, iced-cold when you're thirsty. The lemon flavor is not overtly tart, and the sucralose taste isn't overbearing. It really tastes surprisingly like many of the best lemonades I've ever had. It's so delicious, and it's so delicious, this is one of the few drinks I'd welcome in the 24oz. size (which it's available in, with the resealable cap). Since Recovery can't go flat, because it's uncarbonated, drinking some now, and saving the rest for later is a viable option. For me, I drink it so fast, there's 24oz. would be gone in no time. Surprisingly, as I consume a lot of energy products, after drinking a Rockstar Recovery quickly, I could tell my heart rate was increasing, and I experienced some mild nervousness for about 20-30 minutes.
I think Rockstar Recovery is an excellent product, and at $2, I think it's a good value.
