Do you love the taste of Mountain Dew but need a little more of a kick? MDX is the new product by Mountain Dew makers of AMP. MDX, I?m sure stands for Mountain Dew Extreme, but since ?Extreme? is so out and acronyms are in this is bound to be a hit anywhere. The new 14oz bottle is much more appealing than the standard 12oz can and comes complete with an ergonomic shaped midsection.
Having grown up next to a large Pepsi plant, I'm familiar with geographically specific sodas. Unfortunately, to describe the flavor of Mountain Dew MDX, which is likely a geographically specific soda, I have to use a geographically specific soda. That being said, Mountain Dew MDX tastes like a combination of regular Mountain Dew, and Surge, a drink that lasted a couple of years in certain regions in the late 90's. I like(d) the taste of both, but never found Surge to be particularly pleasing to the palate in the long term. This soda resolves that problem. Though reasonably thick, but it's also very easy to drink.
The energy aspect was the least impressive part of the soda. Though more energizing than a regular Mountain Dew, which I think is saying a lot, it doesn't really energize on the same level as a Monster, Rockstar, Full Throttle, or Bawls Guarana.
The value is good, the 14 oz. size, for the price of an 8oz. Though I'd say you'll likely be more energized by a 8oz. Sobe Adrenaline Rush, this soda is clearly made with taste and enjoyment in mind.
Pros: If you normally don't drink energy drinks, and you want something that doesn't stray too far from what you're familiar with, this is a good drink for you. The taste will feel like home, and it will give you a little more boost than your standard citrus soda of choice. Also, it's a fun green color.
Cons: Made me incredibly gassy, and is loaded with carbs and calories (which isn't a huge change of pace, if you're regularly a Mountain Dew drinker)
I used to really like to drink Mountain Dew, but after drinking AMP I just couldn?t go back to it. I enjoy a very syrupy beverage, so anything less is kind of a step down. I said that this wasn?t really an energy drink, but Jason insisted we review it. Having said that, and expecting very little from MDX, I have to admit it wasn?t too bad. I would say it was like drinking Mountain Dew and Sprite. I would?ve called it Spritain Dew, or Mountain Spritew?. But I guess neither of those really rolls off the tongue very smoothly.
It packs a pretty good amount of caffeine. In fact because of it?s size it almost the same amount as AMP. So I think you?re actually getting a better value than AMP because it carries the same price tag but you get more volume of soda. And what?s a few milligrams of caffeine in exchange for more soda?
